The BVI's Youth U-Turn Project is back following a long pause after the 2017 storms - and we are ready to take action!

The BVI’s Youth U-Turn Project (the “NPO”) is pleased to announce the launching of its ‘Speak2Someone’ facility on Monday 10th March, 2025. The Speak2Someone facility is a convenient online chat avenue that allows young people to connect with professional counsellors.

The overall mission of the NPO is to ‘develop and provide access to quality programs, through dialogue, music and art, which will promote the mental and emotional wellness of youths in the BVI. The vision of the NPO is ‘Supporting Our Youths to Make a U-Turn for the Better.

The NPO was founded, and is led, by Dr Adelle Paul. “This initiative has been a long time coming. Since 2016, I had been putting a team together in order to launch this facility for 2017. Our “Keep Moving” CD project, which we completed through our partnership with the Elmore Stoutt High School, was also due to be launched then.  While the project has been on pause since the 2017 storms, the NPO has recently been restored and will be moving ahead with full steam. The constant cries in the community have been overwhelming. I want the young people to know that I hear you, I understand you and together, you will be able to reach your fullest potential and to make a U-Turn for the better”.

“We ask our youths to give the Speak2Someone service a try before you fault it. Do not worry about previous counselling sessions you may have attended in the past that you do not believe was helpful. This was a genuine concern that was raised with me, by a student, recently. This facility just might be the avenue that could help you to get through, in a whole new way. Do not worry about your information being spread through the grapevine. Our professional counsellors render their services from outside the BVI. We take your concerns about confidentiality and privacy very seriously. This program is for you. It is free. While it is not yet available for 24 hours a day, we would encourage the community to please support this initiative so that we can ensure that a professional is always on hand, at any time of the day, to listen to our young people and to provide them with the helpful guidance that they may need.  Our counsellors have been fully vetted.”

“Access to the Speak2Somene facility is very easy. Simply go to: https://www.u-turnbvi.com and hit the “Speak2Someone” button. We will endeavour to post the hours of availability of our counsellors, on a weekly basis, starting from Monday 10th March.”

This is the first of several initiatives that the NPO will be rolling out this year. All initiatives will be geared towards ‘Supporting Our Youths to Make a U-Turn for the Better’”. The NPO will also be working alongside the Virgin Islands School of Technical Studies, under the helpful guidance of Mrs. Penn-Rodgers (the principal).

Sincerely,

Dr Adelle Paul
